Welcome to Ripley-huron community school

Welcome to Ripley- Huron Community School - A Place We All Belong!

We are a small school with a big heart!  Our school is made up of an exceptional community of caring staff and students.  We have high expectations of ourselves and those around us and work hard every day to be the best we can be both academically and socially.

As we enter a new month of sheltering at home we can be hopeful that we have fewer days ahead of us, than we have behind us.  Reports indicate that we are flattening the curve and thanks to our collective efforts we are managing this slightly quicker than anticipated.  At this time the Ministry of Education has extended school closures to May 31.

Continuation of Learning

We are all starting to adjust to our virtual learning environments.  This has been a steep learning curve for students, parents and teachers.  It’s not perfect, but we are all doing our best in a difficult situation.  This looks different in every household.  Some of you are able to engage with the virtual classroom every day and others are focusing on learning life skills around the farm and home.  Whatever works for your family at this time is right for your child.  Please remember, none of us can learn if we are under stress.  Focusing on our mental health will ensure we all emerge from this pandemic resilient to move forward.  Don’t worry about your child missing out or falling behind.  All our students are going through this and I can assure you that teachers will do their best to support students once we return to school.

Student Items at School

Most students still have personal items in the school building.  Many of them will likely have outgrown shoes, etc. by the time we return.  Unfortunately we are still prevented from entering the school.  Once the closure is lifted, you will be informed of the process to retrieve items.

From one parent to another—Take Care of Yourself to Take Care of Your Family

The mental health repercussions of this pandemic may end up being more severe than the virus itself.  We need to be sure to focus on doing things that promote mental health (i.e. going for a walk).  When you travel with children on a plane, they advise you in the event of an emergency to put your own oxygen mask on first, so that you are able to help your child.  Similarly at this time, you need to ensure you are looking after your own mental health, so that you can best support your child.  This has been called an ‘unprecedented’ situation.  There is no playbook for a pandemic.  We are all going to mess up every now and again, and that’s okay.  We need to do our best every day to support our kids through this.  If you or your child is struggling, or if you know someone who is, please connect with one of the many local resources that are available to help.
