Ripley-Huron Community School Code of Conduct
The RHCS Code of Conduct is consistent with Ministry and Board policies. It is reviewed annually in consultation with students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community. The Code of Conduct sets standards for behaviour that are expected from each member of the school community including students, staff, parents, community partners, bus drivers and visitors. It applies at school, on the playground, on school buses and at any school related event.
Our Code of Conduct is based on these fundamental values:
- Everyone has a responsibility to foster a safe, inclusive and caring school environment in which students can learn and teachers can teach.
- All members of the school community are to be treated with respect and dignity. Physical, verbal (oral or written), sexual, or psychological abuse, harassment, bullying, or discrimination on the basis of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, record of offences, marital status, family status or disability, or any other attribute is unacceptable.
- Everyone has a responsibility to resolve conflicts in a way that is civil and respectful. Violence in any form, that has an effect on the school environment, is unacceptable and can put everyone’s safety at risk.
The two key focus areas for standards of behaviour are Respect, Civility and Responsible Citizenship and Safety.

Any behaviour that has a negative effect on the school environment will be attended to using a range of interventions, supports, and consequences that are developmentally appropriate, that include opportunities for students to learn from mistakes, that focus on improving behaviour and that utilizes a progressive discipline approach. There will be clear and fair consequences for unacceptable behaviour that are consistent with board policy 6820- ‘Safe and Accepting Schools’.
